mmmmmm.... I must find my old pomanders. Where might they be, I wonder. My boys and I have made a number of them over the years. I must find them and roll them in fresh spices.
I agree with Sea Angels...ah, the scent. Time for me to make more as mine have dried out and gotten moldy. This is a task I don't mind repeating at all! Catherine
And Dori, I am wondering if you might let us know about the spices part? I didn't do that part because I don't know how and because I thought is would completely change the look of them...and I am really enjoying the bright orange right now. But I know they won't last (as Catherine attests to). But I am going to put them in the fridge at night to extend their freshness-I hope!
If I have the time (and am inclined), I cover the little orange, or lemon or lime, with cloves nearly touching, leaving a little space for drying and shrinking. Then I shake them in a bag with ground cinnamon and cloves. They turn into little citrus mummies. Once totally dried, then can be stored in a tin and brought back out for enjoyment in holiday seasons to come. Each year I usually respice them by shaking with fresh spices. : ) I often arrange them in a bowl with fresh clemantines.

Oh, I can almost smell them across the blogosphere. I need to Google this, as the only time I tried making these, they quickly rotted. So pretty!
I haven't made a pomander in so many years now. I really should to show my two youngest how wonderful they smell.:)
