I wrote this essay for the magazine Artful Blogging in the summer of 2008.
It still rings true. It also explains why I have the image I do at the top of The Bower and rarely change it. You might also like to know that "bower" is an ancient word for home, and can also suggest a sense of enclosure and secluded peace.
